To improve the quality of life of underprivileged animals. In our urban surroundings, the main categories are: squatter camp animals and feral cats.

The Head Office hospital is in Bridgetown Athlone. It is modern and up-to-date in every way, with two operating theatres and under-floor heating in its recovery wards. We also have hospitals in Mofolo South, Soweto and in Conville, George. In addition to these hospitals, the PDSA has points of call spread throughout the Western Cape and Gauteng.

Western and Southern Cape though our mobile clinics. The number of animals cared for by the PDSA varies from time to time, but at present we treat more than 240 000 animals a year. While it is costly to provide surgery and nursing, we continue to provide treatment of professional standards.

The NSPCA deals with national issues, has six nationally operational units, namely, “Animals in Exhibition, Entertainment & Sport", “Farm Animals”, “Global Campaigns”, “Wildlife”, “Research Ethics” and “Society Liaison” (this latter being for the training and support of SPCA personnel and Committees as well as for monitoring SPCA activities).

The NSPCA also operates in areas where there is no existing SPCA, or where support is required, or has been specifically re­quested, or in response to disasters (i.e. emergencies, floods, fires).
